New Drywall Painting. Prime Standard of Quality

Priming standards

Method of Application

Roller pile 15mm

  • If new lint free, wrap and unwrap full pile with tape so that the lint comes off of the tape
  • If new microfibre, no need to wrap with tape

 Brush

  • Only in some instances do we cut in with primer. For these instances refer to the cutting in section if it exists yet.

1.2

The Paint

Strain the paint.

  • All paint is chunky. Strain it.

1.3

Surface Prep

Boxes

  • Ensure that the boxes aren’t only cleaned out, but the fringed up gypsum paper is sanded with a pad so any looseness is not carried onto the wall below the opening.

Drywall mud

  • It is assumed that the drywallers will be finished. However sometimes things are missed. Always stay on the lookout for unsanded drywall.

1.4

Equipment

Roller Cage

  • Use a clean roller cage free of chunky dried up paint. This quickly builds up on the edges. It then dries, and when scraped against the tray walls, becomes chunks.

Tray

  • Ensure the tray is either a clean tray with a fresh surface, or clean with a high build surface, or clean liner.
  • Trays with one or two layers on it from before, probably will peel within 45 minutes of priming, depending on the coatings beneath.

Pole

  • Use a pole as much as the areas permit

1.5

Application

Dip, Fill, Backroll Technique.

Apply in a similar fashion as the diagram below. Define your area and execute.

  • Vertical Strokes to about 3” away from ceiling
  • Consistent Pressure means consistent stipple

The Feather is done by going up and down in the same spot. And shifting over by lifting the roller off and moving it over. Not like the image where the feather is on the angle, and some is left going one direction and some is left going the other. This is not a baseball field where different texture is cool.

TOTAL VERTICAL STROKES SHOULD BE BETWEEN 9-13. ANY LESS AND YOUR NOT GETTING THE STIPPLE WE REQUIRE. ANY MORE AND YOU’RE BEING INEFFICIENT

1.6

QC & Chunk Management

Ensure at all times you are watching for drips, chunks and ridges. ESPECIALLY OUTSIDE CORNERS

Inspect your work from all angles.

If you hit the ceiling, do not touch it until after it dries.

If you ever hit the floor, clean your roller off.

Do not scrape the inside corners with the edge of your roller
