Level 10 difficulty Painting

March 11, 2021

For the 2017 Home and garden show we chose to really go for something cool and unique. So we thought up a cool idea and found an incredibly skilled finisher who was willing to help us out, and went for it!

It started out as MDF. The carpenter routed spaces for purple heart inlays to be placed. It was important that all of these spaces lined up perfectly to one another.

The inlays went in and stood proud of the MDF surface. This is so they could be sanded flush with the MDF.
Once the pieces were fastened together we could start with the finishing process.

It started with simply laquering the purple heart. I sprayed it all.

Then i precisely taped all the purple heart off. This was very very finicky. But turned out fine.

Once the wood was taped off i then primed it and sanded and vacuumed and then did two finish coats. The end result was super cool. You don’t see wood inlays in MDF because it’s so much work. But it was definitely worth it.
